Sarah Krueger is an accomplished investigative reporter at WRAL, with a rich background in journalism spanning various esteemed media outlets. Prior to her current role, Sarah served as WRAL's Durham Reporter for nearly seven years, establishing herself as a dedicated journalist deeply embedded in the local community.
Before joining WRAL, Sarah honed her journalistic skills as a multimedia journalist at FOX8 in High Point, NC, and at News 12 in New York City. Throughout her career, Sarah has been recognized for her exceptional reporting, earning prestigious accolades such as the Emmy award in the "Breaking News" category for her coverage of Hurricane Florence in 2020. Additionally, she was honored with the Regional Edward R. Murrow award in the same category for her comprehensive reporting on the April 2019 Durham gas explosion.
Sarah's commitment to excellence in journalism was further underscored when she was named the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas Multimedia Journalist of the Year, First Place, in 2015. Beyond her professional achievements, Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University, graduating cum laude with majors in Spanish and Latin American Studies, as well as International Comparative Studies. She also obtained a certificate in Policy Journalism and Media Studies during her undergraduate years.
Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Graduate Liberal Studies at Duke University, Sarah continues to expand her academic horizons while contributing to the field of investigative journalism. Born in New Braunfels, Texas, Sarah's upbringing saw her traversing different parts of the globe, including Burundi, Botswana, and England. However, it is Durham, North Carolina, that she now proudly calls home.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Sarah immerses herself in the vibrant culture of Durham, exploring its culinary scene, patronizing local businesses, and enjoying outdoor activities such as running on the city's trails and greenways. An avid traveler, some of her most cherished memories include visits to destinations like South Africa, Colombia, and Ireland.
Sarah's dedication to community extends beyond her reporting, as evidenced by her involvement with organizations like the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties. Together with her husband Will, whom she met during a summer service program in Cape Town, South Africa, as a Duke undergraduate, Sarah cherishes moments spent with their golden retriever, Boone, and their son, Brooks, born in December 2021.
